As of October 1, 2017, the Putnam County Building Department offers online permit applications. At this time it is only for submission of a new application. Supporting documentation will still need to be provided, if required, in person along with payment at the Putnam County Building Department located at 2509 Crill Avenue, Suite 300, in Palatka. - What is the online permit application?
The new online permit application is a way to digitally submit your building or roofing permit application.
- How do I get started?
To submit an online permit application you first need to visit permits.putnam-fl.com (you can click the title of this page or the website address listed here). You will need to create an account by clicking the “New User Registration” link below the Log in button. You will be prompted to enter a valid email and password of your choice. An email will then be sent to the address you provided to confirm the email is valid. The email will contain a link to verify the email address and log into the website. Once you are logged on to the website you will need to choose whether you are a contractor or owner/ builder. Once selected, you will be asked to fill in information for your account. Once this is complete, you will be able to create and submit new permit applications.
- I have made my account, now what?
At the top of the webpage you will see an option for permit applications. If you click this selection, you will get a drop down menu with “New Permit Application” listed as an option. Click “New Permit Application”. The next screen will provide you with options to search for the address where the work is taking place. If you choose to use the option for 911 address, remember, sometimes less is more. For example, when searching for “2509 Crill Avenue”, you may only want to enter “2509 Crill” or simply “Crill” to see better results. When searching by owner name, you want to list the last name first and NOT use a comma to separate them. For example “Doe John” rather than “John Doe” or “Doe, John”. Once your search results have populated, click on the appropriate property. A box will pop up above the selection with the option to “Start New Application”. Select this option. The rest of the application process is filling in the information requested and submitting at the end. An email will be sent to the address provided to confirm the submission.
- Is the online permit application only for contractors?
No. The online permit application is also available to owner/ builders. When you create your account, you will be able to make the selection for either contractor or owner/ builder.
- Will this take me completely through the permitting process?
At this time, it will not. It is only for the submission for new applications. Any supporting documents required to complete your permit, as well as payment, will still need to be taken to the Putnam County Building Department at 2509 Crill Avenue, Suite 300, Palatka.
- Once I submit the application, how long will it take to complete the permit?
There is not a set time frame for completion as it depends on the applicant. This system is only used to for submitting applications. The applications cannot be processed without appropriate payment and/or deposit, as well as any additional documents your scope of work requires. Once you have submitted the application, be sure to check in with the Putnam County building department to continue the process.
